Cookie Policy
Last updated: 19 September 2026.
This policy explains which cookies and similar browser storage Sudoku Flags uses on sudokuflags.com, what each one is for, and how you can control them.
In short
We store a few small entries in your browser to remember your language, your country, your sign-in and your progress on this device. All of them are set by Sudoku Flags itself. We do not run analytics tools, advertising networks or social media pixels. The site does load Google Tag Manager, a container we can use to add such tools later. It sets no cookies of its own, and it is configured to keep analytics and advertising storage switched off by default.
Who we are
The site is operated by SIA STRAUME AG ("we", "us"). If something in this policy is unclear, write to us through the feedback form. How we handle personal data in general is covered in the Privacy Policy.
Cookies and similar storage
A cookie is a small piece of text that a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later requests. Browsers offer two similar tools. localStorage keeps data on your device until it is deleted. sessionStorage keeps it only until you close the tab.
We use all three. For simplicity this policy calls them "cookies and similar storage", because they raise the same questions for your privacy. Some entries last only for the current visit (session entries); others stay until they expire or you delete them (persistent entries).
What we store
This is everything the public site stores in your browser today. Names that start with sudokuflags_ are ours.
Set when you use a feature
| Name | Type | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
sudokuflags_locale | Cookie | Remembers your language. Set the first time you open the home page, based on your browser's language setting, and again when you switch language. It is sent to our server with page requests so the home page can open in the right language. | 1 year |
sudokuflags_country_pref | localStorage | Remembers the country you picked in the site header. Set only when you choose one. | Until you clear site data |
sudokuflags_all_time_score | localStorage | Keeps the running "All Time" total shown in the game on this device. | Until you clear site data |
sudokuflags_flag_events | localStorage | Holds the per-flag points behind the "My Flag Stats" panel on this device. | 35 days; older entries are removed automatically |
sudokuflags_has_played | localStorage | Notes that a game has already been started in this browser. On the Free plan the first game begins without an ad break, and this entry keeps that from repeating. | Until you clear site data |
sudokuflags_resume_1 to sudokuflags_resume_5 | sessionStorage | Holds the board in progress (one entry per difficulty level) while you switch the site language, so the game is not lost. | Until you close the tab |
Set when you sign in
| Name | Type | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
sb-…-auth-token (the middle part identifies our sign-in provider's project) | localStorage | Keeps you signed in. It holds your session token, which renews itself automatically. Created when you log in or register. | Until you sign out |
Staff accounts use one more cookie, apanel_session, for the admin panel. Visitors never receive it.
Analytics and advertising
Nothing is stored for these purposes today. We run no analytics service, no advertising network and no social media pixels. The short ad break on the Free plan is produced by the site itself and loads no code from an advertising company.
The site loads Google Tag Manager, which we can use to add such tools later. Its consent defaults deny analytics and advertising storage, so nothing of that kind can be stored until a consent tool is in place, and right now no analytics or advertising tags are switched on in it.
If that changes, we will list every partner here together with the cookies it sets, and we will ask for your consent before those cookies are stored wherever the law requires it.
Other companies
Sign-in runs through Supabase, our authentication and database provider, and your browser contacts it directly when you log in. Our servers also use it to store accounts, finished games and leaderboards. This is ordinary data processing covered by the Privacy Policy, not extra cookie storage: the only entry it leaves in your browser is the sign-in entry listed above.
Google Tag Manager is loaded from Google's servers (Google Ireland Limited), so Google receives your IP address and browser details with that request, as with any resource loaded from another company.
If you follow a link to another website, that site's own cookie rules apply, and we are not responsible for them.
Your choices
Browser settings
Every major browser lets you block cookies and site data, or delete what is already stored. Instructions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. Clearing "cookies and site data" removes cookies as well as localStorage and sessionStorage entries. Signing out also removes the sign-in entry.
What happens if you block or delete them
- The site opens in the language your browser suggests until you pick one again.
- The country in the header goes back to the automatic default.
- You are signed out, and if the browser blocks localStorage entirely, signing in will not work.
- The "All Time" total and flag stats on this device start from zero. Results already saved to your account on our servers are not affected.
- A game in progress will not survive a language switch.
Changes to this policy
When we change what the site stores in your browser, we update this page and the date at the top. New storage is not used before the updated policy is published.
